Unlike the JioFi 2, the all new JioFi 4G Hotspot sports a small OLED display up top which indicates almost all essential information including Power On/Off, Network Strength, WiFi tower etc. That aside, it’s markedly larger than its predecessor thanks to the large 2600mAh battery and sports a conspicuous ‘Designed in India’ logo on the back of the device. The last generation JioFi 2 on the other hand came with a smaller 2300mAh battery.

Despite the larger battery, the hotspot comes with a company stated lower running time of 5 hours as compared to the 8 hours marked on the JioFi 2. However, this one seems to charge relatively faster than the last generation. Apart from that, the new JioFi 4G Hotspot comes in a matte finished polycarbonate shell unlike the glossy plastic seen on the last generation. The major downside of the new JioFi 4G Hotspot is its support for only 10 devices at a time as compared to 31 devices on the JioFi 2. But for all practical purposes, 10 should be just enough.

The JioFi 4G Wireless Hotspot now comes in a new cylindrical box pack and is available in three colours including black, white and blue. It’s also worth noting that this new hotspot is ‘Made in Vietnam’ and comes with a markedly higher MRP of Rs 4,050. Just in case you were wondering, the JioFi 2 was made in China by a company called Pegasus. This one though seems to be made by Panasonic, at least that’s what we can infer from the label on the battery. That said, Reliance has also included their LYF branding on the device this time around.

We shall be testing out the new JioFi over the next few days and will update you about the range and performance as compared to the older JioFi 2, which itself had a decent range and a very good battery backup. Stay tuned for more details.
