A friend of mine casually joked a few days back – “There isn’t a day without a new Galaxy device being launched by Samsung”. Well, that’s almost true. After announcing the Galaxy S4 Mini a couple of days back, the Korean giant has now unveiled an 8-inch and a 10.1-inch Android tablets under the Galaxy Tab 3 range. The company claims that the 8-inch version of Galaxy Tab 3 is designed for one-handed use(!!). It comes with a WXGA display with 1280×800 (189 ppi) which is marginally better than the iPad mini (163 ppi), but lesser than Nexus 7 (216 ppi). Ironically, Samsung had announced a 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 version just a month back, but still thinks the market needs an 8-inch variant with similar design. The 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 features a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory. There is also a microSD slot with expandable memory upto 64GB. The tablet runs Android 4.2 Jelly bean with Touchwiz on top of it, and carries a 4,450 mAh battery. In addition to these, it features a 5MP camera at the back, 1.3MP camera in the front and supports dual-band WiFi (a/b/g/n), 3G and LTE. The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 stretches the same WXGA resolution across its display (149 ppi), and packs a smaller 3MP shooter on the rear and a 1.3MP front-facer. The buzz is that the 10.1-inch variant is powered by a 1.6GHz dual core Intel processor and 1GB of RAM. That’s as low-end as it can get. But the good thing is, the tablet runs the Android 4.2 OS and packs a 6,800mAh battery which should be good enough for a screen of this size. It coems in WiFi only, 3G and LTE variants. Both tablets will be available worldwide at the “beginning of June.” As always, we await the official pricing for both tablets.
