Design
In terms of appearance, the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro look similar and share the same new design language with quad cameras on the back, three new colour options: Mineral Grey, Pearl White, and Forest Green, a gradient back, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for authentication, and IP52 rating (Redmi Note 8 Pro).
Display
When buying a smartphone, one of the major deterrents for a lot of people, is the display. And rightly so, since a majority of the time you spend on a smartphone involves interacting with the screen. Both smartphones come with the same IPS LCD display and have Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top for protection. The Redmi Note 8 features a 6.3-inch display with 90% screen-to-body ratio and a dot notch on the top to accommodate the front camera. On the other hand, the Note 8 Pro has a 6.53-inch display panel with a slightly bigger 91.4% screen-to-body ratio.
Processor
In terms of performance, the Redmi Note 8 comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor with Adreno 610 GPU under its hood. Whereas, the Note 8 Pro has a 2.05GHz MediaTek Helio G90T processor with Mali G76 GPU, which makes it the first smartphone to come with the Helio G90T chipset. Xiaomi says it has optimised the Helio G90T chipset for gaming and that it has included liquid cooling to ensure the device’s performance does not throttle down due to overheating.
RAM and Storage
The Redmi Note 8 is available in three RAM and storage configurations: 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB. Similarly, the Note 8 Pro also has three configurations to choose from: 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB.
Camera
Coming to the most anticipated feature for smartphone these days – the camera. The Redmi Note 8 sports a quad-camera setup on the rear, with a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP 120-degree ultra-wide lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth camera. And a 13MP camera with AI beautify, Portrait mode, and AI scene detection, on the front, for selfies. The Note 8 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 64MP primary sensor and the same three sensors found on the Note 8 (an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth-sensing lens). And a 20MP camera on the front for selfies.
Battery
The Note 8 packs in a 4000mAh battery, and comes with the 18W fast charging. Whereas, the bigger of the two, the Note 8 Pro offers a slightly bigger, 4500mAh battery with the same 18W fast charging support found on the Note 8.
Connectivity
The Redmi Note 8 series share the same set of network connectivity options, which include: Wi-Fi ac 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, AptX HD, LDAC, and A-GPS. And, the similar audio feature set, with a 3.5mm jack and a single speaker.
Pricing
The pricing for Redmi Note 8 starts at 999 yuan (~ USD 139 / Rs 10,024) for 4GB + 64GB, 1199 yuan (~ USD 167 / Rs 12,030) for 6GB + 64GB, and 1399 yuan (~ USD 195 / Rs 14,038) for 6GB + 128GB variant. On the other hand, the Note 8 Pro starts at 1399 yuan (~ USD 195 / Rs 14,038) for 6GB + 64GB, 1599 yuan (~ USD 223 / Rs 16,045) for 6GB + 128GB, and 1799 yuan (~ USD 251 / Rs 18,054) for 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage configuration.
